The Seven Summits Story

A 13-year-old mountaineer from Hyderabad could probably be the youngest Indian to climb the Seven Summits.

After scaling Mt.Kilimanjaro (19,339 feet) – the highest peak in Africa last year in October – Jaahnavi Sriperambuduru is now eyeing to scale the second pit stop, Russia’s Mount Elbrus, the highest peak in Europe. Jaahnavi leaves for Russia on July 21 and starts her expedition on July 26.

The Seven Summits is a mountaineering challenge, where mountaineers climb the highest mountains in each of the seven continents.

Jaahnavi Sriperambuduru is also the youngest to have climbed the 20,000 feet tall Stok Kangri Peak in Leh last year.

Jaahnavi, the Teenager

She may have towering ambitions, but in her free time, Jaahnavi likes to paint and write short stories. The young Hyderabad girl is also a trained Bharatnatyam dancer.

Jaahnavi is quite a thrill seeking adventure junkie. Perhaps she gets this from her father, who is also a trained mountaineer and rescuer. Here she is seen riding a jet skii, all alone.

Family Love

Jaahnavi is quite close to her family, as her father Dr Krishna Rao told The Quint over the phone.

Bicycle Diaries

When not mountaineering, the young Jaahnavi likes to mount bicycles. Last year, she got this surprise present from her father.

Like Father, Like Daughter

Jaahnavi’s father Dr Krishna Rao, is also a qualified mountaineer and rescuer. He introduced her to mountaineering when she was just a 10-month-old baby. Dr. Rao believes that mountaineering prepares a person to take up any challenge in the world.
