The German Embassy’s recent irreverent attempt to reinvent traditional diplomatic relations by reworking the popular title song from Kal Ho Naa Ho seems to be what Bollywood folk politely call ‘inspired’.
The slickly produced video of the song featuring the German Ambassador Michael Steiner, his wife Eliese Steiner and Salman Khurshid was definitely a fresh approach to diplomacy.
But the German officials seems to have taken the influence of Bollywood on popular culture a tad too seriously. Their video which parodies the original Kal Ho Naa Ho song is completely ‘inspired’ by an earlier video shot and produced by Shah Rukh Khan’s German fans, which is available on Youtube.
See this video and judge for yourself if the German Embassy could actually be charged with plagiarism.
Rene Lazar is a die-hard Shah Rukh Khan fan from Germany and decided to make a frame-by-frame tribute for his Bollywood idol.
That’s not all, Lazar is the middle of making another fan tribute music video. He was shooting a video for the song Mitwa from Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna last month.
The popularity of the German ambassador’s video will certainly help Lazar’s next one get more attention now.
