Cop of ‘Thain Thain’ Fame Injured in Gunfight in UP Village

He was engaged in a gun battle with two criminals when he got shot in the hand.

The Uttar Pradesh policeman, Sub-Inspector Manoj Kumar, whose ‘thain thain’ video went viral three months ago, was injured on Friday, 4 January in an early morning gunfight in Uttar Pradesh's Alianekpur village, The Times Of India reported.

In October 2018, a 13-second video of him shouting ‘thain thain’ at two armed men in Sambhal district after his pistol was jammed, amused viewers on social media.

The UP police had decided to reward Kumar for bravery and sent his name for a commendation disc and certificate from the director general of police.

According to The Times Of India report, police got a major breakthrough in Sambhal with the arrest of criminal, Saddam, after a gun-battle in Alianekpur on Friday, 4 January.

Saddam, who had been wanted in 15 cases of loot, theft and attempt to murder was going to Asmoli, along with accomplice Akram when policemen stopped him.

The duo opened fire on the cops. In the gun-battle that ensued, Saddam sustained a bullet injury in the leg while Akram fled. Sub-inspector Manoj Kumar was shot in the hand.

“We had the information regarding two criminals coming on a motorbike. Acting on a tip-off, our team took position near Alianekpur tri-junction,” Yamuna Prasad, Superintendent of Police told The Times Of India.

“When the cops saw the two men coming on a motorbike, they signalled to stop them, but instead of slowing down their vehicle, the miscreants opened fire on the police party leaving one sub-inspector Manoj Kumar injured.”

Kumar was shot in the hand and sustained injuries. Prasad added that they were searching the fields to nab the accomplice who fled the scene. Police has recovered two country-made pistols, cartridges and a stolen motorbike from Saddam, The Times Of India reported.

An FIR under sections 307 ( attempt to murder) and 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property) of the IPC and the Arms Act has been filed against him.
