2 Terrorists Killed in Encounter in J&K’s Kulgam

Two terrorists were killed by security forces in the Gopalpora area of Kulgam in western Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, 22 May, ANI reported.

The J&K police, as quoted by ANI, said, “On credible input, a cordon and search operation was launched by police and security forces at Gopalpora of DH Pora area in Kulgam. During the search operation, the hiding terrorists fired on the search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter.”

It further added,

“In the ensuing encounter, two terrorists were killed and the bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. Identities and affiliations of killed terrorists are being ascertained. Incriminating material including arms and ammunition recovered from encounter site.”

The operation had commenced early morning, led by a joint team of the Army, police and CRPF, which encircled the area and closed in on the hiding terrorists, sparking an encounter, an official told The Hindu.

Earlier, on 19 May, terrorists had shot a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) worker, Mohammad Jamal, leaving him grievously injured, in the Zungalpora village of Kulgam.

Three days before that an Army Jawan and three terrorists were killed in an encounter near the Dalipora area of the Pulwama district.
