You missed a helluva lot while you were either pissed off by Tanmay Bhat’s infamous Snapchat or enjoying how angry fans of Sachin Tendulkar and Lata Mangeshkar were getting offended by – what was meant to be – a joke.

Here’s to making life easier, so you don’t come across as an ignorant fool who only knows about celebrities set ablaze (figuratively of course) for doing their job (read: comedy).

1. Global Liveability Survey Shows Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai at Bottom of List

You read that right. Isn’t THIS something citizens of India should be outraged by?

A global liveability survey of 181 cities showed our nation’s capital New Delhi, financial hub Mumbai, tech hub Bengaluru and one of India’s biggest cities, Kolkata, ranked at 174, 176, 167 and 179, respectively.

A Barcelona-based University of Navarrara’s IESE Business School and the Centre for Globalisation and Strategy in association with Cities in Motion Index (CIMI) concluded that these top Indian cities didn’t quite make the cut.

The top five most liveable or “smartest” cities are New York, London, Paris, San Francisco and Boston.

2. Haryana: Murthal Dhaba Owners Confirm Rapes During Jat Agitation

Some dhaba owners in Haryana have confirmed reports that several women were dragged out of cars and raped Murthal during the Jat protests in February, a court was told on Monday, reports NDTV.

3. NASA Gets Best Close-up Images of Pluto

Again, this is HUGE! How could we have missed this? Oh right...

The most beautiful, close-up images of Pluto have been beamed back to Earth by NASA’s New Horizons space probe. According to NASA, “this is the most detailed view of Pluto’s terrain you will see for a very long time.”

4. India Has the Most Number of Slaves in the World

Slavery still exists in India and how.

The third Global Slavery Index revealed that almost 46 million people globally are living as slaves – the highest number of them being in India. However, the highest prevalence of slavery is in North Korea.

Out of India’s population of 1.3 billion, a total of 18.4 million people lives as slaves.

5. Manipuri Youth Brave Water Cannons, Tear Gas for Inner Line Permit

In Manipur, agitations to implement some form of the Inner Line Permit have intensified. The ILP is aimed at restricting the entry of outsiders by making it mandatory for non-domiciles to acquire a permit to enter regions beyond this line.

Water cannons and other equipments were used to disperse student agitators who have been demanding the institution of the ILP in the state.

6. 30 Men Gangrape Teen in Brazil; Four Identified but Not Arrested

Rio de Janeiro police are investigating allegations that more than 30 men and boys raped a 16-year-old girl, officials revealed on Friday, as outrage spread in the host city for the upcoming Olympics, and reverberated across the country.

Authorities revealed that they have identified four suspects so far, but are yet to make any arrests, saying further investigation is required.

7. JK Rowling’s Alter Ego Shortlisted for Crime Novel Award

JK Rowling’s alter ego Robert Galbraith has been shortlisted for a crime novel award. Galbraith’s Career of Evil is one the six books selected by Theakston for their “Old Peculier crime novel of the year”.

The winner of this award will receive 3,000 GBP, and a handmade, engraved oak beer cask. This winner will be revealed on 21 July 2016.
