Tamil Nadu Goes Beyond, Bans 4 Instant Noodles Brands

People in Tamil Nadu will have a hard time trying to find any brand of instant noodles in the market.
The Tamil Nadu government has banned the production, storage and sale of not just Maggi Noodles but also Wai Wai Xpress, Reliance Select Instant Noodles and Smith and Jones Chicken Masala Noodles for a period of three months.
Retailers have been asked to return the packets of these brands to the companies.
The government has taken the decision following testing of samples of 65 food products in the state. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has ordered action to be taken against the companies in accordance with prevailing laws.
In a press release, the TN government stated that after the release of media reports citing the presence of lead and MSG in Maggi Noodles above permissible limits, the Health Welfare Department took samples of 65 food products from the state for testing.
Of the 17 samples taken in Chennai, the government says that 6 samples have been found to have lead and MSG above permissible limits.
