‘Even Milkha Stopped Running’: Husband on Sushma’s Decision

Sushma Swaraj’s husband on Tuesday, 20 November, acknowledged the Union Minister’s decision not to contest the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and said ‘thank you’ on Twitter.

"Madam - Thank you very much for your decision not to contest any more elections. I remember there came a time when even Milkha Singh stopped running," said Swaraj Kaushal.

In another tweet, Kaushal spoke about Swaraj's legacy as the second woman to lead the External Affairs Ministry after Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

“This marathon has been on since 1977 – that is 41 years. You have contested 11 direct elections. In fact, you contested all elections held since 1977 except twice when party did not allow you to contest in 1991 and 2004,” Kaushal wrote in another tweet to Swaraj.

Moments after the Kaushal’s second tweet, his Twitter account wad made private. A lawyer by profession, Kaushal has served as the Governor of Mizoram between 1990 to 1993. He had married Swaraj in 1952.

In a press conference in Indore on Tuesday, Swaraj had announced that she will not fight the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, citing health reasons.
