Days after the Pulwama attack, designer saris depicting the resulting public outrage are attracting traders from across the country.
Traders in Surat, the country's largest synthetic sari hub, have also started selling saris depicting Priyanka Gandhi's entry into politics, and the ones with pictures of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on it.
Manish Agarwal, a saree trader in Pandesara, has made five designs based on the Army theme including the surgical strike, a Times of India report said.
According to the report, around 10,000 pieces of these saris are being sent for sale in different parts of the country including New Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka.
“We artists express feelings of people through our designs. People are seething in anger after the Pulwama attack. The idea of expressing people’s sentiments on saris has been appreciated by the buyers and we have started getting more orders for the design,” the report quoted Agarwal as saying.
Naimish Jiyani, a textile manufacturer has reportedly designed ‘Modi saris’. These saris are embroidered, and have images of Narendra Modi printed on them. The printing is done using digital printers.
“The sari with embroidered Modi image is a unique product developed on branded garment. I am receiving many inquiries from various traders across India and hope to get good bulk orders as elections approach,” Jiyani told TOI.
