Common Cause, an NGO, has approached the Supreme Court challenging the appointment of the new Director of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Rakesh Asthana.
The petition filed by activist lawyer Prashant Bhushan also sought quashing his appointment as the interim/acting director of the CBI in accordance with the landmark judgment of the Supreme Court in the Vineet Narain case.
Asthana, a 1984 Gujarat cadre Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, was a key investigator in the multi-crore-rupee fodder scam and also headed a special investigation team (SIT) that probed the burning of the Sabarmati Express train in 2002.
