Sunjwan Attack: Army Doctors Help Pregnant Victim Deliver Baby

Shazda said that she is happy and grateful towards the team of doctors who helped her deliver her baby.

A pregnant woman, who was injured in an attack by armed terrorists inside the family quarters at the Sunjwan military in J&K, delivered a healthy baby girl in an army hospital on Sunday, 11 February.

Rifleman Nazir Ahmed, belonging to the Sipahi Nazir of the Jammu & Kashmir Light Infantry (JAKLI), and his pregnant wife were injured in the firing by the terrorists and were shifted to the Military Hospital at Satwari, an army official said.

As reported by India Today, the woman, Shazda, was 35 weeks pregnant and had already lost a lot of blood by the time the jawans battled their way to her rescue. However, she was immediately taken to the care of army doctors, who helped her deliver a healthy baby girl through a c-section, says ANI.

The army doctors worked all night to save the life of the severely injured pregnant woman with gunshot wounds, and helped her deliver a baby girl following a caesarean section operation.

The army doctor who conducted the operation told ANI that this was definitely not a routine case for them, and that it was a “joyful” moment for the hospital and all its staff.

Shazda is a very strong woman. She withstood the pain and has responded very positively to the treatment.

While both the mother and the baby are stable, they will still have to remain in the hospital for a few days for a full recovery, reports India Today.

Shazda in turn told ANI that she is happy and grateful towards the team of doctors who helped her deliver her baby.

Five army men, including two junior commissioned officers (JCOs) and the father of an army man died in Saturday’s attack. Eleven others were injured and three Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists were killed in the two-day gun battle at the military camp.
