A Tata institute of Social Sciences (TISS) student was allegedly run over by an escort car of Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's convoy on Thursday, 8 November, reported Northeast Today.
The victim, Anupam Chakma, was on his motorcycle when the accident took place on Thursday morning in Guwahati’s Bharalumukh.
The victim was first taken to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, after which he was shifted to GNRC, where doctors declared him dead. The finance minister was reportedly overseeing the situation arising out of the accident.
Chakma was reportedly a resident of Tripura and was in his sixth semester at TISS, Guwahati. Media reports also stated that the car involved in the accident has been seized.
Sarma is the finance minister of Assam and the President of Badminton Association of India. He was earlier an MLA from Assam's Jalukbari on a Congress ticket. He joined the BJP in 2015 in the run-up to the assembly elections in the state.
