Soldier Shoots Army Officer & Self After Altercation on Duty

Police said that Havildar Joshi from Uttarakhand had reprimanded rifeman Jamsheer when he turned up late for duty.

After shooting an army officer dead at Pallavaram barrack in Chennai, a soldier then shot himself on Tuesday, 27 August.

An altercation over showing up late for duty had reportedly taken place before the crime, according to Times of India.

Police said that Havildar Praveen Kumar Joshi from Uttarakhand had reprimanded rifleman Jamsheer when he turned up late, and an argument broke out.

A senior official said that the incident took place at around 3 am.

“We suspect that the rifleman was emotionally worked up after the Havildar punished him for his lethargic attitude in duty,” the officer told PTI.

Defence sources said the matter was under investigation.
