Father of Indian army rifleman Aurangzeb, who was abducted and killed by suspected terrorists, is expected to join Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in February, Daily News and Analysis reported.

Mohammed Hanif, Aurangzeb’s father, is likely to join the BJP during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Jammu and Kashmir on 3 February.

Rifleman Aurangzeb was abducted by terrorists at Kalampora in Pulwama, June 2018, when he was on his way home for Eid celebrations. He was later found dead at Gussu village.

Aurangzeb was awarded the Shaurya Chakra posthumously.

Zee News quoted sources as saying that Mohammad Haneef, a former sepoy of the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry, will join the BJP on 3 February. He is a resident of Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to sources, several BJP leaders have met Hanief and his name has been sent to Party President Amit Shah for approval.
