Union Minister of State for human resource development Satyapal Singh sparked controversy with his remark on Sunday, "No boy will be ready to marry a girl who comes to the mandap in jeans".
The minister who was speaking at a function in Gorakhpur with UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, also said, "Similarly, no saint will be revered if he gives up his traditional attire and wears jeans."
Minister Satyapal Singh was speaking before a gathering of students at the concluding ceremony of foundation day of Maharana Pratap Siksha Parishad (MPSP), the academic venture of Gorakhnath temple in Gorakhpur.
These remarks were made in the context of appropriate attire according to the Indian culture.
Singh also talked about linking education with employment, Hindustan Times reported.
