An ATM in Damoh dispensed new Rs 500 notes without a serial number. School teacher, Narayan Ahirwal had withdrawn Rs 1,000 on Monday, only to discover the discrepancy, as The Times of India reported.
Ahirwal showed the notes to people around the SBI ATM, which was located near a government hospital.
Another Damoh resident, Sanjay Asati also withdrew the same denomination and found the same problem with the notes. Soon there was an uproar among all the people who had queued outside the ATM and the police was called to the spot.
This is not the first such instance in Damoh as the same incident has happened four times in the past week, including the two times on Monday.
Three days ago, Ghantaghar ATM of Damoh faced the exact same problem, yet no police complaint was filed.
Anonymous bank sources said that such cases do crop up and the victim is advised to submit a complaint in writing for further investigation and redressal.
