Robert Vadra, most of us would think, is a cross the Nehru-Gandhi family has to bear. From his embarrassing statements, to corruption charges - he provided ample fuel to the BJP during the General Elections. 

The Delhi gossip mill has been speculating on Robert and Priyanka Gandhi’s marriage being on the rocks for some time now. It seems now that the couple themselves, or at least those close to them are trying to put those rumours to rest. 

The Feb 2015 cover story of Society magazine is an ode to Priyanka and Robert’s love story. 

“In the good old days, it would have been a fairy tale, but in today’s terminology, it would be easy to say that Priyanka Gandhi and Robert Vadra’s love story easily makes for a blockbuster movie.”

The writer, Meeta Mishra, tries to focus on the only endearing thing about Robert Vadra, his charismatic wife.  

Why did Priyanka Gandhi, beautiful and powerful, fall for Mr Vadra?

“Robert seems to have been a very good dancer, and may even have coached her.”

It seems that he is a good dancer. And treats her like a ‘normal’ person. Is that enough though? 

The couple did not give an interview to the magazine. The quotes are mostly gathered from earlier interviews, and ‘sources’ close to the family.

Is the piece just meant to celebrate an allegedly great love story?

The gushing nature of the article may signal another motive. It may be an attempt to put to rest any speculation about the couple’s marital bliss. Equally, it maybe the beginning of an ‘image makeover’ campaign for the less than delightful Mr Vadra.
