Mock Drill Alert! Video of Rithala Metro Electrocution Is Fake

The news of electrocutions at Delhi Metro’s Rithala station is a fake.

On Friday, news spread on social media that about 10 people were killed at the Rithala metro station in New Delhi, due to electrocution from a “high tension wire”.

The images and videos that were circulated on social media show injured people lying on the road with a huge crowd gathering around them.

Here’s a clarification though. Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor, Anil Baijal, tweeted saying there was a mock drill conducted in various places in the city, including metro stations. The pictures attached in his tweet also show visuals of people lying on a stretcher:

The National Disaster Management Authority also tweeted visuals of drills across the city.

According to DNA, an official communication from District Disaster Management Authority (North-West) said:

It is to inform you that the state level mock drill is scheduled to be held on 30/06/2017 at 5 locations of District North-West at one time.

The Rithala metro station is one of the locations.
