Senior journalist Ravish Kumar of NDTV recently posted on his blog a piece titled “hum fakir nahin hain jo jhola lekar chal de”, to slam the group who hacked his Twitter account. While reacting strongly to the incident, he expressed that people should make an effort catch the culprits, according to the Indian Express.

Whoever is trying to scare journalists is actually trying to scare the public.

On one hand, Kumar slammed the hackers for engaging in a ‘cowardly’ act, and on the other, asked the public to be more aware and secure their email and social media accounts.

If you want to remain safe in these difficult times, you don’t just need to change your passwords, you also need to change your political beliefs from time to time.

Claiming that they use Twitter as ‘a means to reach the public’, the hackers revealed that they would be targeting Lalit Modi’s account next. They also warned that if any one of them is arrested, they would leak over one TB of confidential data.

Refusing to be discouraged by the hackers, Kumar responded in a manner befitting his style.

I will write anew. Whether I am read or not, I shall continue to write. I am not a faqir, who’ll just pick up his bag and leave, but am the lakeer (the line) that when drawn leaves a deep mark, which will last centuries.

On Saturday night, Kumar’s Twitter account was hacked by a group that is calling itself “The Legion”. The same group hacked senior journalist Barkha Dutt’s Twitter account as well. Earlier, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi and industrialist Vijay Mallya’s accounts were hacked.

He said that, somehow, his words must be a source of fear for these people.

You can imagine the fear of my words among this group. Even though I have stopped tweeting for the last one year, trolls still show up to abuse me on my timeline.

The journalist deemed the hackers ‘cowards’, who sit at the headquarters of some political party, and then commit acts of cowardice. He also doubts that they will be caught.
