Indian cricketer Ravindra Jadeja's wife Reeva Solanki was physically assaulted by a police constable in Jamnagar, Gujarat, on Monday, 21 May, police said.
The incident took place at Jamnagar’s Saru Section Road, on Monday at 5:30 pm. Sanjay Ahir, the constable alleged to have attacked Jadeja’s wife, has been arrested by the police.
According to sources, Reeva left her home in the Jogger’s Park area of Jamnagar to do some shopping at Saru Section Road near the police headquarters and the collectorate office. Witnesses said that the police constable came from the wrong side on a Pulsar bike and fell after hitting Solanki’s BMW.
After this, eyewitnesses added, Reeva rolled down her window and was about to ask the constable if he was alright, when the already enraged cop immediately lashed out and assaulted her.
"The policeman mercilessly thrashed Reeva and even pulled her hair during an altercation. We saved her from his clutches," Vijaysinh Chavda told PTI.
Solanki was rushed to a nearby hospital where Jamnagar’s Superintendent of Police, Pradip Sejul, met her and later escorted her back to his office to take a statement.
The India TV report quoted eyewitnesses as stating that the accident was allegedly a minor one, but the policeman reacted violently.
