Rape Accused Goa MLA Monserrate Sent for Three-Day Police Remand

Unattached Congress MLA from Goa, booked for rape of a minor girl, is being sent to three day police remand.

Former Education Minister and expelled Congress MLA, Atanasio Monserrate (Babush), has been sent to three day police remand, reports ANI.

Monserrate was arrested on 5 May for allegedly raping a minor girl. He had ‘bought’ the victim from her mother for Rs 50 lakh. Both the politician and the mother have been charged with human trafficking.

Jenifer Monserrate made a statement in her husband’s defence on 5 May and said:

I’m completely with my husband, I don’t believe false allegations against him, it’s political vendetta.

Claiming innocence, Monserrate said:

I have not done anything wrong. The complaint is totally false and bogus. This is just to frame me.

Monsarrate has been booked under IPC section 276 (rape), 328 (poisoning), 342 (wrongful confinement, 370 (A) (trafficking) and the provision of Goa Children Act and the Protection of Children From Sexual Offences Act.
