A 17-year-old girl in Rajasthan cracked the IIT-JEE but committed suicide a day later because she didn’t want to pursue a career in engineering, according to the Hindustan Times report.
Kripti Tripathi jumped off a five-storey building and left a five-page suicide note. She was living with her parents in Kota where she was a student in one of the city’s coaching institutes.
This is the fifth suicide by a student this year in Kota, famous for its coaching institutes that train candidates for different entrance exams.
The girl scored 144 marks in the exam which is around 44 more than the cut-off of 100 marks in the general category. Every year more than 1.5 lakh students from across the country enrol in the various coaching institutes in the city to prep for this entrance.
Atleast 56 students have committed suicide in the last five year. This has led several coaching institutes to offer helplines that will offer counselling.
