Incessant rain across the Konkan region of Maharashtra has led to flooding in several districts, resulting in the death of at least 164 people, the state government said on Monday, 26 July.

In Raigad, at least 53 people have died due to landslides in the Taliye village, where rescue operations have now officially ended. The 31 missing people have now been declared dead following due process.

"The search for these missing people has been called off after seeking the opinion of NDRF/SDRF/TDRF," Raigad DM told ANI.

A total of 875 villages in the state have been affected by the floods.

The rain caused significant damage to property as well. Rescue operations are now underway across the region.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar visited the flood-affected areas separately to take stock of the relief and rescue operations.

The continuous downpour for several days has severely affected the Konkan region as major rivers in Ratnagiri and Raigad districts overflowed above the danger levels.
