The Anti-Corruption bureau officials in a raid conducted on Monday confiscated gamut of wealth amassed from a road-transport authority employee, identified as Purnachandra Rao, in 34 years of service in Andhra Pradesh’s Guntur.
The confiscated items include gold weighing 1 kg, silver articles weighing 60 kg, at least 14 homes and Rs 20 lakh in cash.The officials said there might be more.
Rao, 55, started his career as a Motor Vehicle Inspector in 1981 and eventually worked at the Road Transport Authority in Guntur, Ongole and Nellore. But his assets paint a different picture altogether.
The official's assets include seven apartments and two houses in Vinukonda, one house in Guntur, two flats in Hyderabad and Vijayawada each, and a mill to process pulses in Vinukonda.
According to the officials who conducted the raid, the market value of the assets cannot be less than Rs 25 crore.
Mr Rao came to the notice of the Anti-Corruption Branch after a complaint alleging corruption against him.
A case has been filed against Purnachandra Rao under the law for assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
