Congress President Rahul Gandhi, on Monday, 4 March, took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling him a "habitual liar", a day after PM Modi inaugurated a manufacturing unit for AK-203 rifles.

"Prime minister, I laid the foundation of Amethi's ordnance factory in 2010. For the past several years, it has been producing small arms. Yesterday, you went to Amethi and habitually, you lied again," the Congress President tweeted in Hindi, further asking the prime minister if he doesn't feel “ashamed” at all.

PM Modi, on Sunday, 3 March, was in Amethi, first time since he came to power to address a political rally where he inaugurated the ordnance factory which will produce AK-203 assault rifles. PM Modi called Amethi the best example of his government's "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas (development for all)" motto and said that the AK-203 Rifles will be known as "Made in Amethi."

“The AK-203 rifles will be manufactured in Amethi under Russia-India joint venture...these rifles will be known as ‘made in Amethi’ and will help our jawans in encounters with naxals and terrorist.”

"When the foundation was laid by your MP (Rahul Gandhi), it was said that work will start in 2010. It was his government but it did not happen. Why believe such a person? For three years, it was not decided what kind of weapons will be made here and land was also not made available," PM Modi was quoted by NDTV as saying.

Soon after Rahul Gandhi's remark for PM Modi, Union Minister Smriti Irani, who had lost to Gandhi in 2014 from Amethi, hit back at the Congress president. She said that Rahul Gandhi is so afraid of development in Amethi that he didn't bother to see whether a joint venture between India and Russia was launched to produce AK-203 rifles.
