Rahul Gandhi’s foreign tour continues to be marred in controversy. Speaking at the International Institute of Strategic Studies in London, Gandhi likened the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to the Muslim Brotherhood, a banned terrorist organisation.
This has prompted a flurry of angry responses from the BJP, while people on social media have had mixed reactions.
Sambit Patra, BJP spokesperson, in a ruthless comeback said: “Rahul Gandhi must apologise as he has compared RSS with Muslim Brotherhood. Is Rahul Gandhi a contract killer of the idea called India?”
Irfan Habib, renowned historian, has an apt reply to Patra and the BJP: “Whether Gandhi’s decision to be critical of the BJP/RSS was justified and the manner in which he did so, can and will be debated, calling his criticism anti-national is dangerous. The line between the State and ruling party cannot be blurred.”
Twitter – per usual –stands divided with people flocking to comment on Gandhi’s statements, their political leanings and biases in tow.
