Fresh from his Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage, Congress President Rahul Gandhi arrived at his parliamentary constituency, Amethi, on Monday, 24 September.
The Congress president was welcomed by saffron-clad Shiva devotees, known as 'kanwariyas', at Fursatganj. He was also presented with a portrait of Lord Shiva.
Gandhi was greeted with posters hailing 'Shiv bhakt Rahul Gandhi' as he arrived at Lucknow's Amausi Airport and drove to Amethi. This is his first visit to Amethi since his 12-day pilgrimage to Mount Kailash, considered to be the abode of Lord Shiva.
With a scarf around his neck, Gandhi took part in a puja, party leaders said.
Speaking to News18, a senior Congress leader said the party president “deserved” a “religious welcome” as it was like homecoming for him.
During his two-day visit, Gandhi will address women of self-help groups near Fursatganj, and is scheduled to lay foundation stones of projects at Jias. He is also expected to address a meeting with about 150 gram pradhans from different areas of the constituency, reported The Indian Express.
