1. Three Delhi Men Held for Cheating Telangana Job Aspirants

Three men from Delhi, who allegedly cheated over 15,000 job aspirants in Telangana after creating a fake website claiming it to be of a government organisation, have been arrested, police said on Tuesday, 29 May.

Vikas Kumar, Subash and Vikas Khandelwal, all working with an IT firm, were arrested on May 27 in Delhi by Hyderabad police and brought to the capital city, a police release said.

According to police, the accused created a website http://telangana.gred.co.in/ and posted a recruitment notification calling for applications to various posts purportedly issued by Telangana Agro Development Corporation, and job seekers filled the application forms and paid money in different bank accounts.

2. Smuggled Liquor From Punjab Worth Rs 50 Lakh Seized in Ghaziabad

Liquor worth nearly Rs 50 lakh was seized in Indirapuram on Tuesday, 29 May, while the consignment was being transported from Delhi to UP, billed as soybean.

The consignment, being transported in a truck, contained 842 cartons of liquor bottles bearing brand names such as Signature, Royal Challenge and McDowell’s. Police said samples of the seized alcohol would be sent to a forensic science laboratory to check if it is spurious. The truck, bearing a Rajasthan registration number, has also been seized while its driver Vikramjeet Singh (50) and his assistant Jagraj Singh (42) have been arrested.

3. Woman Accuses BLP MLA of Raping Her When She Was a Minor

A 22-year-old woman has accused a BJP MLA of raping her when she was a minor. The woman filed a complaint against Kushagra Sagar, an MLA from Bisauli seat in Badaun district.

The complainant is the daughter of Sagar's domestic help.

SSP Kalanidhi Naithani said, “We have initiated an investigation into the matter and appropriate action will be taken very soon.” The woman said that since the accused had been elected MLA, her life had become miserable.

4. Five Arrested for Raping 22-Year-Old in Delhi

A 22-year-old woman has alleged that she was abducted and raped by five persons in southwest Delhi. Based on her complaint, police said an FIR has been registered under IPC sections 376-D, 365 (abduction), 323 (causing hurt) and 34 and the accused persons have been arrested.

DCP (southwest) Milind Dumbere said, “We have arrested five persons after we received a complaint from the woman. Further investigation is on.” The woman told police that she was returning home from work Sunday night, 27 May, when five men in a car offered her a lift.

5. JNU Sexual Harassment Case: HC Asks Atul Kumar Johri Not to Take Charge as Warden of Women’s Hostel

The Delhi High Court Tuesday, 29 May, directed Jawaharlal Nehru University professor Atul Kumar Johri, accused of sexually harassing eight women students, not to take charge as warden of any women’s hostel on the campus.

The court said it has “no hesitation in holding that in view of law, JNU is duty-bound to provide a safe working environment to the complainants, even if they do not take recourse to the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) to seek redressal.”

The court said Johri will not be part of any administrative committee and will not visit or use laboratory number 409. “Respondent number 4 (Johri) shall be given, if necessary, a separate laboratory to conduct his work. He shall have no contact whatsoever with petitioners/complainants or any potential witnesses,” the court ordered.

6. Gurugram: Eight-Year-Old ‘Sexually Assaulted’ by Neighbour

An eight-year-old girl in Gurugram was allegedly sexually assaulted by her neighbour, said police on Tuesday, 29 May, adding that the accused has been apprehended and detained. According to police, the incident occurred on Monday evening, while the parents of the child – who are employed in the informal sector – had gone to work.

“The accused and the child were acquainted. In fact, she considered him her uncle, even calling him mama,” said Ravinder Kumar, PRO of Gurugram police.

The accused, police said, lured the child out of her home, and into his own house, under the pretext of offering her juice. He then sexually assaulted her and threatened to kill her if she confided in anyone about the incident, police added.

7. Bengal Cops Seize Huge Quantity of Explosives, Bangladeshi Terror Link Suspected

The West Bengal police seized a huge quantity of explosives from Bahadurpur village in Birbhum district near the Jharkhand border on Monday, 28 May, which a section of officers suspect was meant for the banned Bangladeshi outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).

The seizure includes 11,000 gelatin sticks, 50,000 detonators and a huge quantity of ammonium nitrate. There are many stone quarries in the region and police say the explosives could have been siphoned off from official stocks of one or many of these quarries.

Monday night’s seizure came less than a week after Murshidabad police seized 98 kg bomb-making chemicals that was allegedly being sent to the JMB. Manglu Khan and Sadekul Khan, who were arrested in Murshidabad, told police the explosives were smuggled in from Jharkhand.

8. Woman Burnt Alive by Husband and In-Laws in Bengal Due to Her 'Dark Complexion'

A 23-year-old woman was allegedly burnt to death by her husband and in-laws in Bengal’s West Midnapore district because of her dark complexion.

Shrabani Maity, who was from Chakmokrampur in Kharagpur, succumbed to her burn injuries at Midnapore Medical College and Hospital on Monday, 28 May.

Based on her father’s complaint, police arrested her husband Saurabh and his mother, Sumitra, on Tuesday.

9. Woman Kidnapped From Outside Gurugram Mall, Gang-Raped by Five Men

Five men were arrested on Tuesday, 29 May, for kidnapping a 30-year-old woman from outside the Sahara Mall in Gurugram and gang-raping her at a guest house in south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area on Monday night .

The woman, who works at a private firm, told the police that she had come out of the mall around 11pm on Monday. She was looking for an auto when the men offered to drop her home. Two of the accused are drivers for a leading app-based cab aggregator firm.

When the woman resisted their offer, they dragged her into the car and took her to a guest house in south Delhi where they took turns to rape her for several hours, police said. After raping her, the men left her in a room in the guest house and bolted the door from outside.
