Unidentified people set 60 thatched houses on fire at Adivasi Sahi of Dadhimacchagadia in Odisha’s Khurda district.
The arson is suspected to have been done to avenge the murder of a stone crusher unit owner two days ago.
The incident occurred around noon when most of the male members of the families were away from homes. The houses were reduced to ashes by the time fire tenders reached the place.
Sujit Biswal, the stone crusher unit owner, was killed by some unidentified persons two days ago.

In a suspected case of honour killing, a 19-year-old was allegedly strangled by his lover’s family and then hanged to make it appear as a case of suicide.
Jai Prakash Pasi was found hanging from a tree in Rauhi village in Bhadohi district of Uttar Pradesh on Monday morning.
It was only after spotting a tattoo of the girl’s name inked on victim’s arm that police talked to her family and took four people including her father into custody.

One person surrendered before the police in connection with the murder of Vijayaraghavan, AIADMK councillor of the Madurai city corporation.
Initial investigation revealed that there were several criminal cases against the accused Selvapandi including robbery.
Police suspect that the murder has been committed due to a personal dispute between the Vijayaraghavan and Selvapandi.
Vijayaraghavan (42) was hacked to death on Sunday night when he was sitting at his friend’s shop by two people who attacked him with sickles and knives and fled the spot.

Police have arrested three youths in connection with an alleged robbery of a trader in Yamunanagar, Haryana.
According to a Times Of India report, three youths with covered faces looted the house of a trader Ravi Garg on 18 March. The accused held the victim and his family at gun-point and then fled away with cash, jewellery, a Maruti Swift car and other valuables.
Police caught the accused Gautam, Kuldeep and Sumit while they were trying to cross the state border and enter Himachal Pradesh on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. According to police, the accused were driving the same car that they had stolen from the victim.
A notorious gangster wanted in several cases, was arrested after he opened fire at a man who refused to give him money to buy liquor, according to a PTI report.

The West Singhbhum district police claimed to have solved the murder case of a forest ranger in naxal-hit Goilkera, according to PTI report. Police arrested two people including the victim’s driver.
Forest Ranger Sidheshwar Singh was shot dead in the forest dak bungalow on March 13. Singh was living alone there.
Police are still looking for four more people associated with the case. Singh was killed to loot Rs 10 lakh he had withdrawn from the bank and kept in the dak bungalow.
A class XII student was attacked and injured by an unidentified gang when she was returning home after writing her board exam Srivilliputhur town of Tamil Nadu. The victim happens to be the daughter of police sub-inspector.
The incident occurred in a busy area near the famous Sri Andal temple. The victim has been admitted to a local hospital.
Police added that the reason for the attack was under investigation. The girl was a student of a private school and was returning from her board exam center when the incident happened.
