The pro-Hindu Yuva Brigade founder Naresh Shenoy, who has been named as prime accused in RTI activist Vinayak Baliga murder case, was produced before a court in Mangaluru on Monday and was remanded to police custody for three days.
Shenoy, who had been absconding since the murder that took place on 21 March, was arrested by the police on Sunday.
Shenoy is a popular right-wing youth leader and founder of Namo Brigade which had orchestrated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s election campaign in 2014. The Namo Brigade, which was his outfit’s original name, was later renamed as Yuva Brigade.

A Delhi court denied bail to a kidney recipient who was arrested in connection with an organ racket in Apollo hospital of New Delhi.
According to Hindustan Times, the court said that 22-year-old Ashutosh had voluntarily underwent the transplant, therefore becoming a co-conspirator in the case.
The police have so far arrested 13 people, including the racket’s kingpin – Rajkumar Rao – personal assistants of senior doctors, donors, a recipient and a few middlemen in connection with the matter.

AAP MLA Dinesh Mohaniya, arrested in a case of alleged molestation, was sent to judicial custody on Monday for 14 days by a Delhi court which rejected his bail plea.
The duty magistrate on Saturday had denied him bail and sent him to Tihar jail for two days till Monday.
The MLA was booked on 23 June for allegedly misbehaving with a group of women who had approached him with a complaint regarding the water crisis in their locality.

A 30-year-old woman was allegedly raped by her husband and his two brothers who tattooed expletives on her forehead and hand after her family could not fulfil their dowry demand, in Alwar district, the police said on Monday.
Expressing shock over the incident, Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi asked the National Commission for Women (NCW) to probe the matter.
An FIR has been registered under sections of 498-A (Protection of Women Against Domestic Violence Act), 376 (punishment for rape)and 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust) of IPC and an investigation in the case has been initiated, police said.
No arrests have been made so far.

The 17-year-old girl from Bihar who alleged that she was gangraped and had her private parts brutalised with sticks and guns, underwent her fourth medical test on Monday.
The state police, however, put up her name and address on their Facebook page, violating Supreme Court guidelines, The Telegraph reported.

The Madras High Court transferred the murder case of the 24-year-old techie – S Swathi – over to the Chennai City Police from the Government Railway Police, The Hindu reported.
Appalled by the alleged statement given by Commissioner of Police in Chennai in an English daily, where he said that railway stations were outside the jurisdiction of the city, a bench of judges summoned the public prosecutor to seek clarification.
Noting the lack of progress in the case, they later transferred the case to a special team of the city police.

The dead body of a Class III student was found badly mutilated with bricks on the terrace of a private hostel where he stayed in Jamshedpur.
The Telegraph reported saying that the Jharkhand police detained six people including the owners of the hostel.
10-year-old Ram Chandra was a student of Irvine Adventist School. The motive behind the murder was not immediately clear.

A 21-year-old woman from Salem committed suicide after facing harassment on Facebook when an obscenely morphed photo of hers was uploaded, The Indian Express reported.
Despite having filed complaints at the Magudanchavadi police station, her family alleged that the police did not begin any procedure on blocking or removing the morphed photo.
Seeing no hope, Vinupriya who was a BSc student, committed suicide when she was alone at home.
