In fresh trouble for social activist Teesta Setalvad, government today asked CBI to probe the receipt of over Rs 3 crore by private firm Sabrang Communication and Publishing Pvt Limited (SCPPL) linked to her from foreign donors, including US-based Ford Foundation, in alleged violation of FCRA rules.

Police claimed yesterday to have solved rifles loot case of March 9 with the arrest of an accused, carrying reward of Rs 12,000, and recovered the firearm from his possession in Charthawal area in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh.
The accused identified as Vivek, member of Rahul Khatta’s gang, was arrested and a self-loading rifle, four live cartridges and four looted cars were recovered from his possession, Superintendent of Police Sarvan Kumar said.

A Hyderabad officer of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) was arrested yesterday by CBI on the charge of demanding bribe for issuing `U’ (universal) certificate to a Telugu film.
G Srinivas Rao, the officer, was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 10,000 from Prabhakar Reddy, producer of the film `Andala Chandamma’, for issuing `U’ certificate, CBI superintendent of police Chandrasekhar said.

A man allegedly set his friend’s wife on fire after a failed rape attempt on her in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
The 35-year-old was left with severe injuries, at Pipari village under Bhoganipur of Kanpur Dehat region, police said.
The woman is admitted to Kanpur Medical College Hospital and is in serious condition.
