1. In 17 Months, 17 Minors Escape from Yerawada Observation Home

In as many as five different incidents since July last year, 17 juveniles lodged at the Yerawada (Pune) observation home for various offences, including serious ones, have disappeared without a trace and officials are clueless about their whereabouts.

2. Man Hurls Slippers at Ex-NSA MK Narayanan

Former national security adviser MK Narayanan was attacked by a suspected pro-Tamil activist with slippers at a function in Chennai on Wednesday.

The man, later identified as Prabhakaran from Tamil Nadu, was shouting “Narayanan is responsible for the plight of Lankan Tamils” and “resolutions on Lanka (moved by Amma) had been ignored by the Centre”.

3. ‘Rape Victim’s Child Can Claim Inheritance Right’

Allahabad High Court has ruled that a child born after a rape has inheritance rights over the property of the assaulter, the “biological father,” and suggested that an appropriate law be enacted to deal with this “complex social issue.”

4. Delhi: At Forensic Lab, Rape and Murder Samples Past Expiry Date

Over 7,000 cases are pending in the Forensic Sciences Laboratory in Delhi’s Rohini, and 1,479 of those samples may no longer yield accurate results as they have crossed their one-year expiry date, the Delhi Commission for Women pointed out to the Delhi government’s home department on Wednesday.

5. Now, Uber Convict to Face Trial in Another Rape Case in Uttar Pradesh

Shiv Kumar Yadav, the former Uber cab driver who was Tuesday sentenced to life imprisonment for raping a passenger in Delhi, will now face trial in another rape and robbery case lodged in Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri district. The case dates back to 2013.

6. 31-Year Old to be Tried as a Juvenile in Gujarat

A 31-year-old man will now be tried as a juvenile before the Juvenile Justice Board because police as well as metropolitan court failed to point out that he was a minor at the time of the incident 14 years ago.

If Tushar Parmar is convicted, he will have to serve sentence at a remand home along with other juvenile delinquents.

7. Ola Sacks Driver For Allegedly Misbehaving With Women Passengers

App-based cab service Ola sacked a driver for allegedly misbehaving with two women passengers in Delhi.

The incident took place on Monday when a union ministry officer and her 18-year-old daughter asked the driver to switch on the GPS, which surprisingly was not even present in the vehicle. An argument ensued, during which the driver allegedly misbehaved with the duo.

8. School Shut After Rape Arrest in Bihar

The district administration in Bihar shut down a school on Wednesday for an indefinite period after a top administrator was arrested for allegedly raping a student.

The Class V student had approached the cops with her parents, accusing Pawan, the son of school director Nandlal Singh, of sexually assaulting her during school hours on Tuesday.

9. Two Girls Flee Assam Shelter

Two minor girls who were rescued from a red light area in Assam on Wednesday night ran away from the rehabilitation centre of a local NGO.

Among the four rescued girls, three are minors. All four girls were trafficked from Nepal.
