1. Two Employees Steal Rs 2.20 crore From Thomas Cook

The Delhi Police arrested two Thomas Cook India employees who stole foreign currency worth Rs 2.20 crore in cash, according to a Hindustan Times report.

On Monday, the Noida Police were informed of two assistant managers being robbed of the cash while on their way to deposit the amount at a bank in Connaught Place. Thomas Cook approached the police when they tried contacting one of the managers but his phone was switched off.

The manager, Sumit Kumar, called to tell the company he was robbed. When questioned by the police, his answers were found to be contradictory. Kumar later confessed during interrogation that he staged the robbery along with the other assistant manager to steal the money.

The entire amount has been recovered since, according to a Thomas Cook spokesperson.

2. Lawyer Hacked to Death in Court Premises By Son

On Tuesday, a 55-year-old lawyer was hacked in the Madras High Court premises by his own son, creating a panic amongst those present, according to a report by The Hindu.

Advocate A Manimaaran was attacked by a sickle at about 1:30 pm, in what the police called a move motivated by a family feud. The man in question, M Rajesh, was Manimaaran’s son from his first wife. He had gone to discuss his sister’s marriage with his father, which became in a wordy duel between the two.

Rajesh sliced his father’s head and face. Manimaaran was rushed to the hospital where doctors said he was due for surgery.

3. Wildlife Trafficker Arrested in Delhi

On Tuesday, Sansar Chand, the son of an infamous wildlife trafficker, was arrested by the Crime Branch from Delhi’s Sadar Bazaar, according to a report by The Times of India.

Akash, the accused, had a non-bailable warrant issued against him. The Rajasthan police had also requested the assistance of the Delhi police to catch the accused. In the operation to nab him, two police constables received injuries.

Two leopard hides had been discovered and the police had arrested six others including Akash’s mother, while he was absconding.

Akash was previously arrested and served a sentence of almost four years before receiving bail in 2008.

4. Father Kills 6-Year-Old by Shoving Onion Down her Throat

In Aurangabad, a father allegedly killed his 6-year-old daughter after shoving an onion down her throat, when she could not recite the numbers from 1-15 properly, according to a report by The Times of India.

The incident occurred on 9 July and Sanjay Kute, the man in question, buried his daughter’s body in a graveyard nearby. The incident only came to light when the girl’s mother went to the police to lodge a report.

Kute was arrested on Tuesday, for the rage-killing.

5. 11-Year-Old Raped and Murdered by Relative

An 11-year-old girl was abducted before she was allegedly raped before being killed by her 25-year-old relative in Sivaganga in Tamil Nadu, according to a PTI report.

When the police zeroed in on the suspect, Karthik, it was found that he slit his own throat and consumed poison. He has been admitted to a hospital and the motive to ascertain the murder is being investigated.

The girl’s mother had filed a missing person’s report after she did not return home from school till late evening. Investigation revealed that the girl was seen last, going with the accused on his motorcycle. Karthik buried the girl’s body in a desolate spot afterward.

6. Girls’ Parents Booked for Honour Killing in Haryana

Suspected of honour killing, the parents and family members of a 19-year-old girl have gotten a case registered against them in Haryana’s Kilorad village, according to a report by The Tribune.

The mortal remains of the girl were collected from the cremation ground and sent for forensic testing, according to Ajai Malik, SHO of the local police station.

The girl had allegedly become friends with a boy from Dabarpur village, which the parents came to know of and did not like. An altercation took place between the girl’s father and the boy on Saturday, before the suspected murder of the girl on Sunday night.

7. Youth Murdered in Madurai by Armed Gang

On Tuesday, a 24-year-old was hacked to death in Madurai by an armed gang, according to a report by The Hindu.

The Dalit youth was suspected to have been targeted in revenge aimed at a friend of his, who had eloped with a Hindu girl in June.

The youth, R Muthumanickam, was riding on a motorcycle with his friend P Soundarapandi when a gang came on two motorcycles and attacked them with lethal weapons. Soundarapandi escaped with injuries.

Police are on the lookout for suspects based on inputs from the injured.

8. Woman Paraded in Village with Blackened Face, Five Arrested

A 40-year-old woman’s face was blackened after which she was paraded in her village in UP, after villagers came to know that her son had eloped with a girl, according to a report by the Millennium Post.

The issue was brought to light by the girl’s father in front of the panchayat, and the woman stayed away from the panchayat’s session.

On orders from the panchayat, some men entered the woman’s house after which they blackened her face and garlanded her with shoes and paraded her around the village. Five persons have been arrested in connection with the incident.

9. Delivery Boy Held for Harassing Customer

Police in Bengaluru arrested a delivery boy for allegedly harassing a female customer by circulating her number on WhatsApp and passing her off as an escort, according to a report by The Hindu.

Shreyas, the person in question, works for a food delivery service who interacted with the customer on 8 July. The woman had ordered food but she did not like it and cancelled it. Shreyas refused to accept the cancellation, got into an argument with the woman and left the food outside her house.

The woman started receiving calls from strangers and after investigation, the police zeroed in on Shreyas.
