1. Gold Worth Rs 2.67 Crore Seized in Chennai

According to a report in The Hindu, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence on Sunday busted a gold smuggling racket operating from the Indo-Myanmar to Tamil Nadu.

In an operation lasting several hours, an employee of the Public Works Department was one of the two arrested in connection with smuggling gold into Chennai.

The agency arrested another gang and made a total seizure of 8.8 kgs of gold bars worth Rs 2.67 crore.

In total, 5 persons – all residents of Chennai – were arrested under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.

2. Three-Year-Old Battling for Life After Rape, Kidnapping in Jaipur

According to a Times of India report, a three-year-old minor who was kidnapped from her neighbourhood and raped was found bleeding profusely on the roadside.

The girl went missing from a Gurudwara near her home, where she had been playing with friends on Saturday. She was found on Sunday morning.

The girl, who was in a state of shock, could not testify and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the JK Lon Hospital.

CCTV footage is being examined and the victim’s family suspects a man working in the area is the culprit.

3. Five Held for Looting Courier Van; Rs 1.24 Crore Recovered

Five persons, who were allegedly involved in looting Rs 2.72 crore from a courier van near Jalna in Maharashtra, were arrested on Monday and Rs 1.24 crore was recovered from them, according to a PTI report.

The van of the courier service of Gujarat was carrying cash to Mumbai, when seven robbers travelling in two vehicles intercepted the courier van and looted cash Rs 2.72 crore.

The accused are suspected to be former employees of the courier service.

4. Inter-State Lottery Prize Racket Busted, Three Held

Three persons, suspected to be the part of an inter-state racket involved in duping people in name of bogus lottery prizes, were arrested on 13 June from Kolkata in connection with a similar case in Mumbai, according to a PTI report.

The trio had allegedly cheated a resident of suburban Worli of Rs 3.5 lakh in name of bogus lottery prize, police said.

The accused are part of a major racket that cheat people by making them deposit money after claiming that they have won a lottery, said officials.

5. Man’s Body Found Dumped in Jute Bag in Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar

The highly decomposed body of an unidentified man, aged around 35 years, was found inside a jute bag at a garbage dump in southeast Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar area on 13 June, according to a PTI report.

The body was found by an auto driver, who immediately called the police.

The body had visible injury marks and the police suspect it was dumped in Lajpat Nagar to mislead them.

A murder case has been registered and is being investigated.

6. Youths Loot Rs 45 Lakh at Gunpoint From Toll Booth in Orissa

Unidentified youths on 13 June looted Rs 45 lakh from two staff of a toll gate at Gopipada, Khurda District in Orissa, according to a PTI report.

The miscreants snatched the bag with cash at gun point from the staff and fled towards nearby Berhampur in a car, said the police.

7. Uncle Rapes 11-Year-Old Niece in Agra

A 40-year-old man allegedly raped his 11-year-old niece after gagging her and tying her limbs to the bed, according to a Times of India report.

The uncle, a liquor addict, found the girl sleeping all alone at home and had ‘unnatural’ and forceful sex with her, said the police.

According to sources, the uncle had made advances towards his niece before.

The girl, who received serious abdominal injuries as a result of the violent act, was rushed to a private hospital, then to SN Medical College in Agra.

The accused has been booked under various sections of the IPC.

8. Drugs Worth Rs 1.95 Crore Seized in Hyderabad

A PTI report says over 200 kgs of Alprazolam drug, which is used in the treatment of psychotic problems, were on Monday seized from a factory In Hyderabad. The drugs were seized for their alleged illegal manufacturing, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) said.

Weighing 238.12 kgs, the seized drug has a street value of Rs 1.95 crore. One person has been arrested in connection with the stash.

The case is being further investigated by the DRI.

9. Woman Files Rape Case to Extort Rs 10 Lakh

A woman and her boyfriend were arrested in Delhi for allegedly extorting Rs 10 lakh from three persons by implicating them in a rape case, registered last week, in southeast Delhi’s Sunlight Colony area on Monday, according to The New Indian Express.

The duo had negotiated a deal of Rs 10 lakh with the accused in the rape case, and had already taken Rs 50,000, but were arrested by the police when they went to retrieve the balance amount.

The woman had filed a rape case last week alleging that the trio had kidnapped her outside an eatery and gang-raped her in a moving car, before dumping her near Indraprastha park.
