The National Commission for Women (NCW) summoned Dr Prashant, civil surgeon of the East Champaran district of Bihar and Sadar Hospital superintendent Dr Atul Kumar, over the medical examination of a minor girl who was allegedly gangraped and had her genitals brutalised with sticks and guns.
NCW member, Sushma Sahu, told The Telegraph that there are doubts over the “credentials of the hospital employees, who prima facie appear to be hand-in-glove with the rape accused.”
Sahu also spoke of the commission’s intention to write to the Union Home Ministry over the conduct of SP Jitender Rana, who tried to downplay the incident.

In April 2016, after allegations of a drug scam worth Rs 297 crore from the opposition in Maharashtra’s legislative session, Director of Health Services, Dr Satish Pawar was suspended with two of his juniors.
However, two-and-a-half months later, the scam report seems to have vanished into thin air, with the CM’s office to the public health department being clueless about the probe.
When DNA approached Dr Bhagwan Sahai, who headed the one-man probe panel, he denied receiving the report.

Two days after Infosys employee, S Swathi, was killed at the Nungambakkam railway station in Chennai, the Government Railway Police(GRP) is yet to identify her killer, The Hindu reported.
The GRP officials, on Sunday released new CCTV footage of the suspected killer, asking the public to provide details on the suspect.
The Chennai city police are also assisting the GRP officials in the investigation.

Naresh Shenoy, a prime accused in the murder of a RTI activist on 21 March 2016, was arrested on Sunday from Hejamady in Udupi district in Mangaluru, a senior police official said on Sunday.
City Police Commissioner Chandrasekhar said Shenoy, charged with hatching the murder of Vinayak Baliga, had destroyed evidence. All the suspects, except Shenoy, had already been arrested.
51-year-old Vinayak Baliga was hacked to death near his house at nearby Kodialbail while he was about to go for a morning walk. Shenoy had been absconding since then.
The other five arrested are Vineet Poojary, Nishit Devadiga, Shivaprasad, and Shailesh and Manjunath Shenoy. Manjunath is out on bail.

The mother of two minor sisters who were found with slit throats in Mohammadbazar of West Bengal’s Birbhum district was arrested on Sunday, The Telegraph reported.
She was “directly involved” in the crime, police said, which had likely taken place over a property dispute.
Police sources said, that Aparna Sadhu had assisted her brother Ramprasad Saha in committing the murders. Saha confessed to the crime.

A Congress leader was allegedly beaten to death by some unidentified assailants, reportedly due to political rivalry in Baran district of Rajasthan.
“Sonu Goyal (33) had a political rivalry with some local men. He was attacked with batons last evening in Devri area. He died in the attack,” police said on Sunday without naming who the suspects were.
Goyal was the Congress General Secretary of Shahabad block unit in Baran district and his wife is a local Sarpanch, the police said.
No arrest in the case has been made so far, police said.

A 24-year-old model based in Mumbai was arrested for allegedly running a prostitution racket in Versova under the pretence of a production house.
Police said that two girls were rescued and the model has been booked under section 373 (buying minors for purposed of prostitution) of the IPC and under various provisions of the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act (PITA), according to The Indian Express.

The arrest of three people from Gujarat’s Valsad railway station has claimed to solve the triple murder in Malawi, where a 50-year-old woman was stabbed to death in her sleep along with her two grandchildren.
DNA reported that crime branch team arrested two men – Salman Akbar Shaikh, Mufeed Salman alias Shaikh and one woman Shabina alias Anam Shaikh – who were all waiting to catch a train.
Crime branch officers said that 50-year-old Babli Shaw was involved in several illegal activities and ran a flesh trade from home. The three accused had intended to steal a “huge amount” of money that Shaw had received after selling a few plots in West Bengal.

A volunteer of a cow shelter if Gurgaon was allegedly shot dead by people who were smuggling beef illegally, The Indian Express reported.
The deceased and five others were chasing the vehicle that was transporting the beef illegally, police said.
