1. UP: Dalit Family Attacked, Threatened for ‘Touching Idols’ in Temple

A dalit couple and their relatives were beaten up, abused and issued life threats for allegedly touching idols at a temple in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.

The victim works as a sweeper for the local civic body, and his wife was recently elected a block development committee member.

2. NGO of Teesta’s Lawyer Quizzed on Foreign Funds

The union home ministry has sent a questionnaire to human rights lawyer and former additional solicitor general Indira Jaising’s NGO, Lawyers Collective, seeking details of its bank accounts since inception, and positions held by its trustees in other entities including the government.

The questionnaire, incidentally, follows a complaint received by the home ministry against Lawyers Collective, founded by Jaising and Anand Grover, an equal rights lawyer. For more read here.

3. Uzbek Belly Dancer’s Murder: Key Suspect May Have Been Killed

The woman and friend of the Uzbek dancer, suspected to have killed her, have also been murdered, according to the man arrested for the same crime.

She was being searched. Gagan Rajkaran, 30, who was arrested on Sunday, allegedly kidnapped and murdered Shahnaz along with Naaz, believed to be in her 40s. Read the full report here.

4. Hyderabad: Student Commits Suicide After Being Ragged

A 19-year-old engineering student of a Chennai college committed suicide on Friday in his Hyderabad residence, alleging “ragging” by one of his seniors in the institution.

The deceased has been identified as V Krishna Chaitanya, a second-year B Tech student at a private college in Chennai. A case has been registered.

5. Delhi: 6 Held for Stealing Memory Cards Worth Rs 40 Lakh From I’ntl Airport

Six people were arrested on Friday for allegedly stealing memory cards worth around Rs 40 lakh from the cargo hub at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in Delhi.

Among the six, four were customs clearance agents. So far, around 26,400 memory cards have been recovered from them. For more read here.

6. Conman Dupes Shilpa Shetty’s Parents of Rs 2 crore over 2 years, Arrested

A conman was arrested in Meerut on Friday for allegedly duping the parents of actress Shilpa Shetty of Rs 2 crore over the past two years.

7. Actor Huccha Venkat Arrested for Abusing Ambedkar

Actor Huccha Venkat was arrested on Friday for making derogatory remarks against Dr Ambedkar in a talk-show, hosted by a vernacular television channel on Wednesday.

8. Bengaluru: Arrested Shakeel Men Being Grilled for ISIS Links

Following information from central intelligence agencies, the Central Crime Branch police in Bengaluru are grilling the three associates of gangster Chhota Shakeel, who were arrested for possible links with the ISIS.

They were involved in the Muzaffarnagar riots in Uttar Pradesh in 2013. For more read here.

9. Kerala: Operation Named ‘Big Daddy’ to Fight Online Child Sex Racket

Kerala police is getting ready to intensify their drive against flesh trade involving children through internet under an operation called ‘Big Daddy’. This comes after the organisers of ‘Kiss of Love’ were arrested for being a pivotal part of an online sex racket.
