1. Dabholkar Murder: CBI Quizzes Tawde’s Wife

The CBI, on Tuesday, questioned Nidhi Tawde, wife of arrested Hindu Janajagruti Samiti member Virendra Sing Tawde, in connection with rationalist Narendra Dabholkar’s murder.

Nidhi, who is not an accused in the case, was examined about details relating to alleged conspiracy to eliminate Dabholkar as the agency believes she may have been witness to developments when it was being hatched.

2. Kerala: Dalit Student Hospitalised After Ragging

A 19-year-old Dalit student studying at a nursing college near Bengaluru has been admitted to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital with severe stomach problems after she was allegedly ragged by her seniors.

The student was allegedly forced to consume a toilet-cleaning liquid at a nursing college hostel in Karnataka’s Gulbarga area. Kerala police have referred the case to Gulbarga police. The victim, from Edappal in Malappuram district, is a first-year BSc nursing student at AL Qamar College of Nursing, Gulbarga.

In a statement given to police and her advocate, the girl said she underwent physical and mental torture by some seniors hailing from Kerala after she joined the institute in December 2015.

3. Inmate Killed in Clash at Amritsar Central Jail

A 45-year-old inmate lodged at the central jail in Amritsar was killed in a clash with another prisoner. The scuffle took place on Tuesday morning when Swaran Singh, resident of Patti village in Tarn Taran, had a heated argument with his fellow inmate Kiran Kumar.

Singh was allegedly attacked by Kumar, following which, he was injured and taken to a hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead. Swaran Singh was lodged in a case of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, whereas Kiran Kumar was facing charges of murder and dacoity.

4. African Woman, Aide Held with Narcotics Worth Rs 2 Crore

A South African woman, alleged to be an international drug peddler, was arrested at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) with 14 kg of narcotic worth Rs 2 crore while her Nigerian accomplice was nabbed from Burari area in New Delhi.

CISF sleuths detected suspicious movement of a flier on Tuesday night, identified as Belinda F (42), who was to travel to Addis Ababa.

A detailed search of the passenger and her belongings led the Central Industrial Security Force personnel finding narcotic drug ‘methaqualone’ from her bag. According to CISF officials, the drug was neatly packed in black paper wrappers.

5. Loot Accused Escapes Custody, 7 Police Personnel Suspended

A man arrested in a loot case, escaped from the police custody on Tuesday. According to reports, the accused was taken to the district court in Meerut to be produced before a judge.

The authorities have suspended seven police personnel in the matter.

Kapil, who was arrested in connection with a recent loot case was in a cell in the court premises after the hearing. Over 12 cases of murder and loot are pending against Kapil in various police stations of the district.

A case of negligence was registered against the seven police personnel, including a woman constable, who were then suspended.

6. Family of Four Killed by Neighbours Over Land Dispute

A couple and their two sons were murdered on Tuesday allegedly by their neighbours over a land dispute in Chhattisgarh’s Balodabazar-Bhatapara district.

The incident took place at Latua village, six km from the district headquarters.

The victims were identified as Ramlal Dhruv (55), his wife Taman Bai (50) and their sons Vinod (30) and Aniket (25). According to police, Dhruv family had a dispute over the land behind their house with their neighbour Sewak Yadav.

The court ruling had gone in Dhruvs’ favour.

7. Property Dealer Shot at in Ghaziabad

A property dealer in Ghaziabad sustained bullet injuries when he was shot at by three people.

Mukesh Chowdhary (45) was sleeping on the terrace of his house in Garden Enclave in Sector 23 Sanjay Nagar area last night (20 June) when Guddu Pandit, Rajkumar and Dheeraj of his village Abupur fired upon him.

Chowdhary sustained bullet injuries in his stomach and was rushed to the nearby hospital by his family members where he is recuperating.

An FIR has been registered under section 307 (attempt to murder) of IPC against the three persons.

8. Muzzaffarnagar: Two Separate Incidents of Rape Reported

A veterinarian has been arrested for allegedly raping a 35-year-old married woman at her house in Kutubpur village.

According to police, the incident happened on Monday when the accused Ramnivas went to the victim’s house to treat a buffalo. As per the complaint filed by the victim’s husband, the accused forced himself upon his wife and raped her.

In another incident, a 7-year-old boy was allegedly sodomised by a youth in Rampuri area. The cops said that a case has been registered against the accused Naveen Kumar and steps are being taken to trace him.

9. Rape Victim Commits Suicide

A 21-year-old woman, who was allegedly raped by a friend on the pretext of marriage, committed suicide at her residence in east Delhi’s Harsh Vihar.

The woman was allegedly being pressurised to agree to an out of court settlement in the rape case in connection with which a 24-year-old man was arrested. The incident was reported on Tuesday when the woman’s relatives found her hanging in her room and raised an alarm.

Her body was later sent for postmortem examination and a probe has been initiated into the matter.
