1. Cop Shares Anti-Modi FB Post, Suspended

A police constable, who shared a Facebook post which took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was suspended by Superintendent of Police P Rajendra Prasad. RTI activist BS Nandakumar of Makkanduru village, in Madikeri district, recently complained to the SP against Sameel, a police constable working at Ponnampet police station. He had used the singular against Modi.

Sameel shared the post he had received from some others against the Prime Minister. The writing mentioned protests by the army and asks, “Have you seen protests by Armymen earlier? Have you heard of such things? Does the Modi govt need more shame than this one? Is it not enough that you (‘neenu’ in Kannada) have become Prime Minister?” the shared message said.

2. KAS Official Fired for Not Returning to Duty

The government has sacked a Karnataka Administrative Service officer who refused to return to duty from a personal trip to the United States. It's the second such case in the past 10 years. She didn't return to work for three years despite reminders.

TK Roopakala worked as the administrative officer in the IT and BT Department. “The officer was given several opportunities to return to work, but in vain. We had to terminate her services as it should not set a wrong precedent among bureaucrats,“ source said.

3. Bengaluru's Church Street May Be Closed for Vehicles One Day a Week

BMP is debating if the one-day ban on motor vehicles should be on a Saturday or a Sunday. Church Street may soon become the first street in Bengaluru to completely ban motorised vehicles for a day.

Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), which is executing the TenderSure works at Church Street, is considering keeping the road open only for walkers once a week.

4. Indira Canteens to Come up in Major Govt Hospitals in City

The government will open Indira Canteens in all districts, said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on 26 September, while inaugurating various developmental works in Mahalakshmi Layout Assembly constituency.

“The government has already opened 100 Indira Canteens in the city and the remaining 50 will be opened on October 2 and 47 more canteens will be launched during Karnataka Rajyotsava. If land is not available, the government is ready to open canteens in rented buildings. Indira Canteens will be constructed in all major government hospitals in the city to provide hygienic meals to poor patients,” the Chief Minister said.

5. Fifth Accused in Student's Kidnap and Murder Arrested in Andhra

Shantakumar, the absconding accused in the kidnap and murder of 19-year-old diploma student N Sharath, was arrested early on 26 September in Andhra Pradesh

In his confession, Shantakumar told the gory details of how he and his associates strangled the income tax officer's son with a nylon rope. Last week, police arrested his four associates, HP Vishal, 21; Vinay Prasad alias Vicky 24; Karan Pai, 22 and Vinod Kumar V, 24, in connection with the abduction-murder case. All the five were produced at a local court and remanded in judicial custody on 26 September, officials said.

The arrests were made after police exhumed Sharath's decomposed body from a quarry near Manchanabele dam on Bengaluru-Magadi border.

Road Rage Outrage in Bengaluru: 7 Men Chase, Assault Researcher

A 28-year-old senior research fellow at Raman Research Institute was assaulted by a group of seven men near Sanjaynagar area on 22 September. Kumar Shivam is undergoing treatment for a broken nose after a man in a car and three others on bikes beat him up for objecting to the man having taken an abrupt turn on the road.

Shivam, who is originally from Bihar, told BM, the incident happened around 4 pm when he was going from his institute at Sadashivanagar to his hostel in RMV IInd Stage. “I was riding a scooter and had reached the 80 feet road in front of MS Ramaiah Hospital. Just then, the driver of a white BMW car right ahead of me, who had put on the indicator to the right, suddenly took a left turn. Another scooterist and I had to apply brakes all of a sudden to avoid hitting the car. I pointed at the driver and objected to this. The driver was talking to someone while taking the turn, so I told him he must not talk and drive,” Shivam said.
