Award-winning actor Prakash Raj has come under fire from BJP supporters as a lawyer filed a private complaint against him in a Lucknow court, over his recent remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The court is scheduled to hear the complaint on 7 October.
While addressing the 11th annual convention of left-affiliated students’ group, Democratic Youth Federation of India, Raj said:
Being a close friend to the Lankesh family, the actor slammed the prime minister and others for acting as if nothing had happened, despite having social media followers celebrating the killing on social media.
Following his speech, reports started to emerge that Raj wants to return his national award to protest Lankesh’s murder. The actor later clarified by saying he had no such intention.
