It has been one year since Prince* was killed in the bathroom of a school in Gurugram on 8 September 2017. As the trial continues, his father is commemorating this day to launch a Child Safety Baton to increase awareness about child safety.

An event has been organised by him in Gurugram on this day to launch the movement, which will encourage the government to take action against violence in schools, including raising awareness of basic safety norms.

A release from the event, on behalf of the foundation he has set up in the memory of his son, says:

“The symbolic, yet message-bearing Safety Baton will move around the country from the day, passing through each and every state capital of the country. Once the circulation of relevant and meaningful baton completes its countrywide circulation, it will be handed over to the President of India with a sincere request to invite his special attention to the future of the nation – Children,”

The [Prince] Foundation also wants to create momentum to declare 8 September as Child Safety Day. For this ‘a request letter has already been sent to the Prime Minister and the concerned departments.’

The purpose of the foundation is to work for child rights, safety and security in a school.
