After students of JNU were brutally attacked, politicians, journalists, and Bollywood actors reacted with shock and horror. Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi’s chief minister, said that he is “shocked to know about the violence at JNU” and the “police should immediately stop violence and restore peace.”
Meanwhile MHA sources, according to ANI, stated that Union Home Minister Amit Shah has spoken to Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik to take stock of situation in the college and Joint CP rank official to investigate and submit a report.
Many leaders have condemned the violence, including external Affairs Minister Jaishankar, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and Congress leader Shashi Tharoor among others.
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said that he has asked a delegation of All India Professionals’ Congress to reach JNU.
A TMC delegation has also headed to Delhi. They stated, “We strongly condemn brutality unleashed against students/teachers in JNU. No words enough to describe such heinous acts. A shame on our democracy. Trinamool delegation led by Dinesh Trivedi (Sajda Ahmed, Manas Bhunia, Vivek Gupta) headed to Delhi to show solidarity with Shaheen Bagh and JNU.”
Congress leader Randeep Surjewala also tweeted saying that “enmity of Modi government to JNU is well-known.” He also asked how “goondas are brandishing lathis” and beating up students when “Delhi Police is at the gate of JNU."
Bollywood Actor Swara Bhasker also took to twitter and urged the people of Delhi to show up in large numbers outside JNU. Bhasker had tweeted a video of her pleading the people to help the students.
