Burari Deaths: Post-Mortem Confirms No Foul Play, Says Police

“No strangulation mark or major injury on body to hint at foul play,” said the police to The Quint.

Ten of the 11 post-mortem reports have confirmed that there is no foul play in the Burari death case. The doctors told us verbally that there was no sign of scuffle on the 10 bodies. We are waiting for the 11th post-mortem report of Narayan Kaur who was found on the floor.

The much awaited post-mortem reports of the family that allegedly killed themselves in Delhi’s Burari have confirmed that all 10 family members died due to hanging. There is no strangulation mark or major injury mark on the body to hint at a scuffle, according to police sources.

So far, all evidences have ruled out murder or foul play but the death of 11 members, including the eldest member of the house, Narayan Kaur, is still a mystery.

Details of Post-Mortem Report

Here are some of the details of the post-mortem report as told by a senior police officer to The Quint

• All 10 deaths are caused by hanging
• Minor scratches on body. No strangulation mark or major injury to hint at scuffle.
• Semi digested food found in the stomach of 10 family members. The family ordered food at 10 pm on the fateful night. Which means that they must’ve had the food around 10:30 - 11 pm. And hung themselves between 12 midnight and 1 am. The entire process was mentioned in the diary found at the crime scene.
• The post-mortem report rules out poisoning.

Will Police File a Closure Report In the Case?

Before filing a final report in court on the death of Chundawat family, the police will get a psychological autopsy done based on the evidence, like diary notes and the statements of relatives and friends.

Although, the post-mortem reports clearly rules out murder we will go for psychological autopsy to complete the circle of the investigation. It is very essential to know the mental state of the deceased.

The investigating agency had spoken to all those who were in touch with the Chundawat family for six days before they died. The family behaved normally with everyone they met or spoke to over the phone, said police sources.

Hours before the family died, Lalit’s wife, Tina, spoke to her sisters over the phone. Her sisters say that Tina sounded normal, there was no hint to suggest that they were planning to commit suicide.
