Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, 29 September, said e-cigarettes were banned to prevent the youth from falling into the new form of addiction.
He also said several misconceptions were being spread about the use of e-cigarettes, including the one which says that it is not harmful for health.
In the latest edition of his monthly 'Mann ki Baat' radio address, PM Modi said several harmful chemicals are added to e-cigarettes which have a bad effect on health. This was the PM’s fourth radio programme since he came back to power for a second term in May this year.
Urging people to shun tobacco, the prime minister warned that e-cigarettes, which are used as a "fashion statement", are a new way of getting addicted to nicotine.
PM Modi, who was on a week-long trip to the US, returned to New Delhi on Saturday and received a grand welcome from party workers.
