After Doklam Resolution, Modi to Visit China for BRICS Summit

PM Narendra Modi will visit China to attend the 9th BRICS summit, to be held from 3-5 September, at Xiamen.

Prime Minister Modi will visit China to attend the 9th BRICS summit, to be held from 3 September to 5 September, at the coastal city of Xiamen, the Ministry of External Affairs confirmed on 29 August.

The confirmation of Modi's visit to China comes a day after the MEA signalled an end to the three-month Doklam standoff between the two countries, when it issued a statement saying, "expeditious disengagement of border personnel of India and China at the face-off site at Doklam was ongoing" and "has been almost completed under verification".

Since June this year, Indian and Chinese troops had been locked in an intense face-off at the border trijunction with Bhutan. Trouble began when India objected to China building a road in the disputed Doklam trijunction.

After his China visit, the Prime Minister will head to Myanmar for his first bilateral state visit to the country.

According to the press release, Modi will hold discussions with the country's state counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi on matters of mutual interest. He is also scheduled to call on President Htin Kyaw.
