The first-ever national plan for disaster management, which encompasses a blueprint for making the country disaster-resilient and concentrates on reducing loss of lives and livelihoods, was unveiled on 1 June by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in Delhi.
The National Disaster Management Plan (NDMP) provides a generalised framework and direction to government agencies for all phases of disaster management cycle and will be periodically improved to keep up with global standards of disaster management, said a Home Ministry Statement.
The NDMP has been based on the goals and priorities set out in the global blueprint for disaster management, the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.
