INS Arihant – lead ship of India's Arihant class of nuclear-power weapons – has just returned from it's first deterrence patrol, thereby completing the establishment of India's nuclear triad, reported ANI.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to congratulate the nation and said that that the underwater war boat is a "fitting response" to those who indulge in "nuclear blackmail".

“India’s pride, nuclear submarine INS Arihant successfully completed its first deterrence patrol! I congratulate all those involved, especially the crew of INS Arihant for this accomplishment, which will always be remembered in our history,” Modi said in a series of tweets.

The development is a major achievement for the country, the prime minister said, adding that INS Arihant will help in protecting the country from external threats and contribute to the atmosphere of peace in the region.

PM Modi also tweeted his felicitations to the all those involved in the success of INS Arihant, and stated that India is a land of peace and togetherness. He further said that India's nuclear programme must be seen as an effort to further world peace and stability.
