Union Minister Piyush Goyal has said that he defended BJP president Amit Shah against the allegations levelled against his son Jay by an article in The Wire because he had an "obligation towards the party and government".
The Union minister told Indian Express:
The article alleged that Jay Shah’s company enjoyed 16,000-fold growth in the year following the election of Narendra Modi as prime minister and the elevation of Shah to the post of party president.
The Indian Express quoted Goyal as saying that The Wire report was "nothing other than innuendo".
Earlier, Goyal had termed The Wire article on Jay Shah “derogatory, defamatory, hollow and baseless.”
Senior Advocate SV Raju will represent Amit Shah’s son Jay Shah over the corruption allegations that have been levelled against the BJP president’s son.
The Congress, the Left and the AAP demanded an investigation into the allegations listed in the article, with Congress leader Kapil Sibal alleging that it was a case of "crony capitalism".
