Responding to criticism over his new ‘bulletproof’ camp office in Hyderabad that cost the state exchequer more than Rs 50 crore, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday said that it was not his house.
The building, known as Pragati Bhavan, was the “Pride of Telangana”, he said.
The new complex, spread over 10 acres of land and with about one lakh square feet of built-up space comes close to the old camp office-cum-residence of the Chief Minister in Begumpet. The bungalow was also reported to have bulletproof windows, a mini-auditorium, a large office space and is guarded like a fortress.
Last month, KCR entered his new official residence, reported to be the biggest and most expensive residence of any chief minister in the country.
It is not my own property. That is the property of the people. Until YS Rajasekhara Reddy constructed a building, the chief minister had no official residence. But that building lacked parking space even for the convoy of the chief minister. Hence the new premises.

Congress MLA Komatireddy Venkat remarked that there were 150 rooms in the chief minister's new camp office which were built in a record time, while the two-bedroom houses were taking a long time to be built.
The new camp office has parking place for 200 cars. It also has a spacious meeting hall. I will invite MLA, MLCs and MPs from Hyderabad to a luncheon meeting on the 2BHK housing scheme in the first week of January. I will show them the new camp office and explain the facilities available there.
