The passengers in a local train in Vasai region of Mumbai assaulted a 20-year-old engineering student Rutuja Naik for boarding the wrong train, reports The Hindu. Naik boarded the local train in Virar to get to her college in Vasai and got thrashed by a group of four women for trying to get off at a short distance.

Naik, who suffered an asthma attack during the assault, reported the incident to the Government Railway Police (GRP) and said:

On Tuesday morning, I was standing on the footboard and was about to get down at Vasai when four unidentified women started abusing me in filthy language and taunted me for boarding the Churchgate local. They said I should have boarded either an Andheri or Borivali-bound slow train.

The attack continued although she tried to reason with the women that she will get late for class if she missed the train. Fellow passengers came to her rescue and offered water, she said.

Naik got off at Vasai, recovered and went straight to the GRP station to register a complain. The police have registered a complain against four unidentified women and are scanning the CCTv footage to identify them.
