Former finance minister P Chidambaram lashed out at the government on Tuesday, dubbing demonetisation the “biggest scam of the year.” He also demanded that it be investigated.

“This is a thoughtless move. Every major economist, newspaper has said that this is the most absurd move by the government,” Chidambaram added.

The former Union Minister made these remarks while addressing the media at an event in Nagpur.

Here are the key things he said at the event:

Minutes after Chidambaram’s comments, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley retaliated, saying that “corruption scams peaked in Congress period” and that’s ample reason for them “getting uncomfortable with anti-corruption step”.

He further “urged” the opposition to “debate this in the Parliament” and “rise above slogans and join this campaign.”
