At least 1,000 Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) are reportedly campaigning in various parts of Gujarat for Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Lok Sabha elections, according to the Times of India.
The NRIs, who normally visit the state in November-December, have returned home earlier to seek support for PM Modi.
The NRIs have come from the US, the UK, New Zealand, Canada and some African countries.
Thirty-nine-year-old Nirav Patel, who runs an I-T company in Chicago has come to his home state for 10 days to garner support for Modi. Patel believes that India has transformed under Modi and wants the momentum to keep going, reported the Times of India.
Seventy-three-year-old Naren Mehta, who runs a manufacturing business in Uganda, says he is impressed by Modi's policy decisions, especially the Swacch Bharat initiative.
Sporting Modi T-shirts, caps and scarves, the NRIs hold meetings, bike rallies and distribute pamphlets, appealing to the people to vote for Modi.
Another staunch supported of Modi, Dr Indravadan Patel, who is a physician from Chicago, has raised funds for the Statue of Unity project in the US. He will campaign in Kheda, Mehsana and Gandhinagar constituencies in the next 10 days, reported the Times of India.
